SPRING CONCERT 2024: “Elijah” by Mendelssohn

Having sung some of the choruses of Mendelssohn’s “Elijah” in the September 2023 workshop, the Choir still found it difficult to master the music of this dramatic work.
The rousing music of this tale of the biblical figure presented challenges to our conductor, to the singers and eventually to the orchestra. However, as ever, the Wellingborough Singers gave a good account of themselves on the night, inspired by Nicolas’ guidance, the excellent soloists and said orchestra.
They certainly earned the reward of a summer party, held the following week. The venue, the Bede House in Higham Ferrers, lent a touch of medieval glamour to a feast of salads and seasonal strawberries.
The entertainment, provided by the Tenors, lacked the expert guidance of a professional conductor but was well received, while the reading by Terry Jones (not a Yorkshireman, but well able to put on the voice) gave an amusing preparation to the excerpts from “The Messiah” that will be performed at the Christmas concert.

NICOLAS MOODIE APPOINTED AS NEW MUSICAL DIRECTOR OF WELLINGBOROUGH SINGERS

Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. For immediate release.

Wellingborough Singers announced in March 2023 the appointment of Nicolas Moodie as Musical Director, with immediate effect.

‘’We are very excited to welcome Nicolas as MD of Wellingborough Singers. Nicolas’ appointment has been a unanimous decision by choir members and the Committee and Trustees, and we feel confident that he will bring to rehearsals the essential qualities our group wants, and needs’’, stated Lidia Douglas, chairperson of the choir.

After completing a BA in Music at the University of East Anglia, Nicolas Moodie went on to obtain a postgraduate diploma in vocal studies at Trinity College of Music. He has sung as a guest Baritone soloist with choruses across the country, and has sung with many of the professional choirs in the London churches and cathedrals. Nicolas is a private teacher of singing and bowed strings, and has taught in various schools in London and Northamptonshire, including the University of Northampton as a singing tutor. In 2018 Nicolas was appointed Director of Music at the church of Ss. Peter & Paul, Kettering, and has since been appointed as Musical Director for the Camerata Singers in Kettering, and the Wellingborough Orpheus Choir.

‘’I feel privileged that I can dedicate my knowledge and experience to the future of one of Northamptonshire’s oldest and most iconic singing groups’’, commented Nicolas Moodie. ‘’We have selected some wonderful music to work on; I look forward to leading Wellingborough Singers to many successful events, and expanding our reach locally and with other musical groups and communities.’’

Under Nicolas Moodie’s leadership, Wellingborough Singers  hosted a Coronation Concert in Northamptonshire, in June 2023.
